    time to re-line the forge

Its time to replace the old lining in my forge. There are no places close to get kaowool or some of the other more well known insulators. I was scrounging around at Lowes and found "Oldcastle Concrete Fire Brick" for $2.88 each. That's a pretty good price and the specifications say...

    The Neo-Tribal Metalsmith Art Movement

If this is a prime example of Neo-tribal, what if we found out it was built on a propane fired forge? Does that lessen it's 'neo-tribalness'? Or the fact it wasn't made from hand smelted ore? I don't think so, as an art form and a useful tool it seems to be a perfect example should it matter...

    Band saw blade

Hated to ruin a band saw blade so cut off a piece, heated it with the torch to no-magnetic and dropped it in a bucket of water. It snapped like a pane of glass and has a grain as fine as can be. I think it will work, and thanks all of you for the help. It's only .078 thick so I'll be limited...

    Band saw blade

Not gang saw, continuous band. The pieces had been snapped at various lengths to fit the back of a pick-up.

    Band saw blade

Here is what I have, can't tell much from pictures I know but any input would be appreciated. I'll slice off a couple of pieces and see if it will harden.

    Band saw blade

I have been given about 10' of saw mill band saw blade. About 8" wide and 14-12 gauge thick. It isn't old blade but newer and had carbide teeth. I'm wondering if the steel is as good as the older stuff or might it be something not as good since the teeth are carbide and not the same as the...

    Thanks

I take a reliever for severe arthritis. It also makes me more emotional it's the pits sometimes but you just deal with it and grind away.

    The Neo-Tribal Metalsmith Art Movement

I'm trying to make sense of all this, thanks everyone for the knowledge. It seems to me that there are two distinct forms being discussed. The Neo-Tribal is a state of mind defining the art form. Then there is Brut de Forge, make something usable and of quality with what you have at hand. I...

    Wood WIP from John D.

I took the pieces of Burl that was in my Christmas package from JDoyle and 'built' a handle. They were not big enough for a whole handle but together with a left over piece curly maple gun stock project I just made one. A few more coats of oil and some steel wool are left. I also started the...

Yes, I'm glad I asked before I tried it. What does make a good finish on leather over dye?

help me out - I need pic's of jigs - Calling all jig pics!

Thanks, I'm old and shaky with bad eyes, and even with a 'Bubble Jig' it's the pits when a sudden jerk or twitch ruins hours of forging. And, being a hobby I don't get too much practice.

    Tru-Oil

Has anyone used Tru-Oil on a sheath? If so either before or after stain, how does it look, work and hold up? Thanks
