    Arctic Plunge Challenge

a fellow Brother in Christ challenged me to do this, as it seems to be all the rave nowadays. From what I gather it's for a good cause, so I did it on instinct alone. It was 30ish degrees outside, 3:30am in southwestern virginia tonight. The creek is deep enough to swim in as I showed :)...

Some ramblings from a young Christian.

I will first say that I was baptized on Oct. 27th 2013. That being said, my wages are the same as those who have labored for much longer. I was blessed with a few revelations in my personal relationship with God through studying the Word of God. Here they are as I shared them on Facebook...

    Question about a specific pattern...

A friend of mine used to use this damascus and I fell in love with it, but sourcing it is impossible now from the original maker of the steel. Any ideas on how to replicate the pattern? Original Dammy maker: Bertie Rietveld from S. Africa....

Project Reload using the USA Knifemakers Bushcraft Kit

I am starting with the basic 9" bushcraft kit from USA Knifemakers, found here: http://usaknifemaker.com/bushcraft-9-carbon-steel-knife-kit-level-1-build-along-kit.html For a little background, I have done some forging and made a crooked kitchen knife before and also a real thick 5160 blade...

    Flatters???

I watched a youtube video entitled "forging a bowie" by this cat named Brent and he used what seemed to be a flatter and did overlapping strikes to smooth the knife out. Is this something alot of makers do? I've been looking at this hammer, it comes in short handle and long handle and two...

How narrow & long for a narrow tang?

I've narrowed my tang down substantially from the thick round bar, its now squared and tapered to 5" long. The end is blunt as of now. The thickness starts at 1/2" roughly and tapers to 3/8" or a little less/more. Should I shorten the tang and round/point the end? Also, I plan on using a...

ooops, i think might of screwed up my knife

Alright, I was trying to shorten the tang and make it skinnier, like a stick tang....weeeeell.. I cut the end of the tang area too short me thinks. From the bottom edge, starting at the ricasso I have 3.25" to the end of the tang. The tang and ricasso are 3/8 thick while the blade is...

First Bowie/First Knife Forging that actually looks like a knife

I used a piece of spring steel from an industrial spring that I straightened out with a torch on the job. I followed Kevin Cashen's article closely on shaping a bowie and his techniques work, although I made it harder on myself quite a bit with inaccurate hammer strikes and the like. As you can...
