    Small wheel question

With that setup you'll have to loosen and extend the tooling arm along with rotating the platen out of the way. Then you get very limited access to the radius of the small wheel. A separate arm for every attachment is the way to go. That or multiple grinders ready to go.

    Fuller scraper?

I've been wanting to make a contact wheel using a large O-ring as the surface for grinding fullers. I can't seem to locate a ring large enough though. 3/8-1/2" in thickness and a 4-6" diameter.

    Comparing Grinders. the 2x72 type

The second pic just needs tracked to the right a 1/16" or so and the belt would be centered on both wheels. I 100% understand what you mean about how difficult it is to build a grinder that tracks perfectly. Especially if the frame is welded. The ultimate litmus test for a highly tuned...

    Large grinding wheel

Nah. There are some BIG hard wheels rated for high speed. I know for a fact there are swing arm grinders with 24" wheels running 5-6000 sfpm. And those things take a beating. Constantly getting slammed into steel castings with 20 hp behind them. Just got to do the math when it comes to rpm...

    Large grinding wheel

That is cool. Would be even cooler if he ran a belt on top the stone.

    Nevermind

The cv joint was invented by an engineer at the ford motor corp in 1926. There have been many different iterations since then that have been patented. One of the last ones was invented in 1999, which means that patent expired in 2016. If manufacturers wanted to use that particular design they...

    Nevermind

Yes, but patents have expiration dates. 17 years of having a design all to yourself is more than fair. What if one car manufacturer had exclusive rights to build vehicles with an automatic transmission forever? Or only one company was allowed to produce sliding windows for houses from now till...

    Nevermind

This is my opinion, but why dont makers call and ask permission to make a lock back, frame lock, liner lock, etc? At what point does a lock design become OK to use by anyone? How about after 17 years when a patent expires? Does that seem fair? Because it does to me. I waited a LONG time before I...

    Shop Built Suface Grinder Attachment

When I made mine, I built it like the way adjustment typically found on lathes and mills. It has thrust bearings on opposing sides to keep the movement super smooth. It's also completely sealed with o-rings and a seal on the shaft to protect the bearings. It has 1/2"- 13 threads. If I did it...

    Milling machine or surface grinder

Just to make it easier to build you could box in your tooling arm(I recommend brass plate with sides thick enough to drill clearance holes through), and attach a threaded block underneath. The bearing half of the linear slide would be on top. Then attach a plate to the end of the tooling arm...

    Milling machine or surface grinder

That's why I posted it back up. I could tell your idea was headed that direction. I had access to a lathe and mill at work and spent my lunches making what I could. I can only stand sports talk so much anyway. I will disassemble it soon and try to get some pics up.

    Shop Built Suface Grinder Attachment

I brought an old thread up from 2015 because I have no idea how to repost my pictures from then to here. My SGA pics show how I made the slide around the tooling arm itself. Thought it might help with some design ideas for those with access to a mill.

    Kmg problem.

Your drive and tracking pulleys are not lined up. The two crowns are fighting eachother. You need to slide the drive wheel either left or right on the shaft.

    Milling machine or surface grinder

Here's some pics of my toy. I made the wheel myself, you would have to buy one unless you also had a lathe. I'm gonna have my wheel coated in 90 duro rubber eventually. You'll have about $175 in the linear bearing system and about $30 in magnets. There's lots of ways that you could accomplish...

    Milling machine or surface grinder

well i did it, and i know at least one other maker has, so it's possible that someone else can too. just sayin???

    Milling machine or surface grinder

with a mill and about $200 in materials you can make a surface grinder attachment. not to mention all other kinds of tools.

    NWG platen/belt issue, need help/thoughts

set the platen proud of the wheels, lay a straight edge across the platen face and check with a feeler gauge at each end of both wheels. if you have already done this or something similar you may also need more belt tension.(edit) just went back and looked at your original post again and...
