Not meaning to be a stanger

Hey Keith, I haven't been on here in quite a while and was just reading some comments in an old thread about my third knife. You had actually left me a nice comment. I had no sooner started making knives when I had some life changes that put it all on the back burner pretty much all of last...

    Some questions on Etching names/logos

I have to agree with Ed and Nathan, Ernie was easy to deal with and very helpful! The biggest jump in quality of my etch was a friend of mine told me to dab the pad on paper towels after dipping in the solution. I had almost destroyed a blade by using too much solution, it created a dark cloud...

    Kitchen knives you have built

OK Dogs, I ordered up some 3/32 440C, 6 inch wide so I can make a couple of chefs knives. I am curious about grinding a chefs knife, should I grind it on the flat platen or slack belt for a convex grind? I really want to see some kitchen knives that you guy's have made. If you've made one...

#5, Plain Jane Ok dogs, this is #5. This one is a plain Jane :D . It is 3/16 O1. The tang is tapered with Coyote Brown G10 with Black liners and a Scotchbrite finish. This one has solid stainless pins. I think I may just put this one through its paces to see what she is made of!! Please excuse...

    #4 and my first sale!

Thanks guys! Rodney, I bought an old "Electroetch" machine off of Ebay and I got my stencil from Ernie Grospitch here: http://www.erniesknives.com/knifemaker_stencil.html I think the biggest thing that helped me to get a decent etch was not using too much etching solution. Dip the pad in the...

    Heat treat oven parts question

Hi Doug, I found the brick locally through a building supply place that handles refractories. I called these guy's http://www.thermalceramics.com/site.asp?siteid=4&pageid=55 and found someone locally who sells their K-23 insulating fire bricks. Thanks!

    Heat treat oven parts question

Ok Dogs, I am going to try to build a heat treat oven with a friend of mine. I have the plans that are available on this site somewhere. The thing is I have had an electrician look at my electrical and I cannot go 220. I am going to have to deal with the 110 for now. I am going to get the...

    #4 and my first sale!

Thanks guys!! I appreciate the comments! I'm glad I sold my first knife to a friend!! It was hard enough as it is!! James, Ed Caffrey recommended that I bring the grind back into the finger groove after my first knife., needless to say, I took his advice!! Thanks!
