    Noob maker, lemme have it!

As has been said, you are off to a great start and are doing well. The “hurry up so I can start the next one” will fade and your knives will start to drastically improve. Also, good call on getting away from the 1095 for now.

    Shield inlay idea?

I looked at one of the dremel drill presses and may end up going that route. Thanks for the info on the tutorial. I appreciate it.

    Shield inlay idea?

I have done a few (5 or 6) inlays so far with decent success. I am using a couple of shield templates from USA knife makers. My mill, however, will only go up to 2500 rpm and my drill presses about 3000 which is not really fast enough for a 1/16” end mill. I have been just pecking holes and then...

Getting shoulders square on hidden tangs?

Thank you for the advice. I never really considered flex in the file. I will try a lighter touch on the next one and see if my results are better. They are close, but I can see a tiny amount of light on each one and need to try to eliminate that.

Getting shoulders square on hidden tangs?

Can anyone give me some advice? I am not new to knife making, but haven’t done many hidden tang knives, so I am posting here. I have been attempting to make a shoulder all the way around the tang and I am having trouble getting a good guard fit. I always seem to have a little daylight showing. I...

How to inlay shield on slip joint?

You could also get a template from USA knife makers to cut the pocket in the handle and use the stainless shield that comes with it for a template to scribe around on your g10 and then hand file it. I would suggest a simple shape like an oval or diamond and it should be pretty easy.

    Bolsters for slipjoints?

I use 410 for liners and 416 for bolsters and 416 pins. I don’t think I have ever seen any 410 bar stock.

What's going on in your shop?

I wonder how many of us have done that same flower! That was one of the first things I ever carved as well. I put it on a little holster for my Mom's .38. It might not look just like the book version, but it looks exactly like the one you did! The hardest part to learn for me was chasing the...

New to Knife Dogs - Here's some of my recent work

Been following on Instagram for a while. Fine looking knives. At 60 knives (or any other number) it seems to me, you are way ahead of the curve! Fit and finish like yours is what I hope to attain one day.

    Tapmatic and forming tap question.

I didn't see that they were 35% off when I looked earlier. Are you having to put in some sort of discount code? I have been wanting one myself and at that discount I would probably bite the bullet. Do you have to use it in a dedicated drill press or do you just chuck it up just like a bit?
