    My Hydraulic Forging Press

Wanted to start punching my hammers in house, not that I dont enjoy visiting my friends with presses :D. So My buddy JJ gave me his old hydraulic press, good guts but the frame was a nightmare, well made but not built by someone who knew how to build a press. So I took the guts and thought about...

    Bell style Dirk

Saw some photos from a Jim Batson dirk class Alan Longmire had posted over on bladesmith's forum, and had to try one. Being lazy I turned the bolster on the lathe first, and turned in the transition to the tang to forge later. Started with 1/2" round.

    My first pipe Hawk

Waiting some extra hours for steel delivery, i tried my hand at a wrap and weld pipe hawk. Hawk body is mild steel with a rr track moustache clip insert, the bowl is mild steel. Bowl is press fit for now, will silver solder it before fitting the handle. Gonna pick up a predrilled curly maple. A...

    It's getting hot out there

It's that season again, when it's so hot you have to be careful or you can get sick. I hate the heat, and easily get raging headaches from working in it. I got one of these fans from a friend, they come up real often in the scrap bin at any plumbing heating place mostly only needing a new motor...

    New Integral Tactical Hawk

Was down in Atlanta for the Bladeshow, and got this fellow done to take with me for fun. Forged all from one piece, no weld, no cuts, not cut out from plate. Forged from one piece of flat bar. pictured with the now well worn original, and some in process shots.

    new cross peen

Forged this hammer, and the punch and drift in about 2 hours today after work. started with 1045 in 1.5" square by about 4.5" long. Here is my setup, I use the big 5 pound offset for driving the punch and drift, the articulated tool tray holds water for cooling, off to the side is my punch lube.

    Tuesday night practice

I caught some flak from my Lady about doing a stock removal piece, and I have been wanting a Sheffield style bowie for myself also, so I forged and ground this one out tonight after work. I milled and broach-fit the guard, and will final fit after heat treat. I am thinking stag scales with...

    Monday night grinding practice

I wanted to practice a hollow grind on a dagger blade, and I wanted a boot knife, so I ground this one out from some 1084. Ground on a 14" wheel.

    Powerhammer I built

I have finished The powerhammer to my design, which I brought together from a few different designs, which are Tom Troszak's Bull, the tire hammer clutch, and toggle linkages based on Dupont hammers. I have had this design for a few years in my head, and it is incredibly satisfying to see it in...

    Sheffield style

My mind and outlook was pushed farther in the direction on the path of seeking the ancients and seeking also what they sought, when I saw the video of the Sheffield bladesmith fellow, Albert Craven. I see in him obviously an incredible amount of skill, but also a window into the past of the...

    Vertical Forge build

Friend Mike came over to the boss' shop today to make up a forge, I suggested we go vertical and also since we were making one why not make 2? Mike had some good pieces of thick wall pipe, I took the 6" and he took 8". Angled the burner inlet/holder, 1/4" base plates (legs later). Will line with...

    Anvil stand

I liked the steel stand for the peddinghaus anvil so much I decided to also do a steel one for my Jymm Hoffman anvil also. Used some rebar for an industrial look (plus it was available) for the bracing, rectangle tube for the legs and I sacrificed the Brian Brazeal style block anvil to use as...

    Lathe Dagger

I had mentioned I was learning to use a lathe. I decided to make a dagger and turn the handle from brass/bronze and here it is. It certainly isn't precision or anything, just turned by eye having a bit of fun on the lathe. The blade is 5160, with a chiseled in fuller, 1/2 double edge, fileworked...

    Two hander WIP

After seeing that big two handed chopper that my friend John posted, and looking for the old Lady Gertrude sword pictures it got me wanting to do a big 2 hander like that for myself, forged this one tonight from some 5160. The blade will be a bit more curved after I have done the bevels, and the...
