Discovery Channel show needs knife collector

A more lenient interpretation would be they are looking for a knowledgeable knife collector to act out a part. :)

    Mammoth ivory question.

So mammoth ivory won't be effected by the ivory ban? I was under the impression that it would be but after looking on the US Fish & Wildlife FAQ it doesn't appear it will be. I have never used ivory of any kind but I do find the idea of using something "prehistoric" very neat. What other...

    Pass around!!!

HAHAHA. Sorry about that Scott! Not my knife so I was extra concerned about it getting there in the condition it left in.

    Getting serious in 2014.

Update time. I have finished a few knives similar to the ones in the first post. I have also ruined a few, too. Here is a pic of my most recent one that was a new style for me. I believe it would be a sheepsfoot but the difference between sheepsfoot and wharncliffe seems a bit blurry...

    I am spent.......

Rudy, I hand sand to FIX dips and the like that are due to my inexperienced grinding abilities. And to be honest I have come to enjoy it. My grinding has gotten better so I am not hand sanding near as long and it gives me a chance to relax after a hectic day of work and kiddos. I just...

    Pass around!!!

Franklin, the knife is on it's way to Scott. Sorry for the delay in getting it sent out! As far as my thoughts on the knife: Overall, I think this is a good quality knife. I noticed the spot on the tip of the blade and along the spine independent of the other reviews as I had not read them...

    Roman knot file work?

I found an online repository of Blade Magazine but no June 2011. There are 144 issues here though. https://archive.org/search.php?query=collection%3Ablade_magazine&sort=-publicdate&page=3 Also, here is a place to order a digital download of that back issue, although no where in the...

    need a supplier

Buy you a Harbor Freight portable band saw and get to cutting! :thumbup1: I would think that would be cheaper than having them cut out by someone else. It's what I and a number of "budget minded" makers use. I just strapped it to a post on my bench.

Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks for the input guys! I'm assuming I should do this prior to stabilizing? Also does one type of superglue work better than others? I know they come in different viscosities. Thanks again guys.

Is there any way to fix this?

I bought a lot of buckeye and while some of the pieces have been solid I have some that have pretty large eyes that go all the way through. Is there any way to fix this? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    North Texas Knife Makers

I'm in Tyler and would love to join! I'm not sure if I could make it EVERY month but I could make alot of them. I am very interested in meeting other knife makers face to face as all of my interaction so far has been online. I had planned for months to attend last weeks show but my one year old...

Nice knife! Really like that handle. I also got a kick out of the pic with the taped up finger!

    Is it cheating?

A grinder is obviously the most useful tool in a (stock removal)knife maker's shop. A band saw has to be pretty far up that list as well, though. The good thing about the HF band saw is you can get out the door with a 2 year replacement warranty for around $60. I have never cut a blank out with...

    Is it cheating?

My suggestion would be to buy the HF portable band saw. It's what I use and I just have it zip tied to a vertical post on my workbench. Using the 20% off coupon they always have you can get it for around $70 including a 2 year warranty. Not sure how much you are paying for blanks but it wouldn't...
