    Spindle sander?

    At the pressure I've applied with the 3" drum I didn't notice any bogging down. I'll have to try again tomorrow and pay attention - "IF" I can remember {g}

My forge build.....WIP......it's going to take a while!

Only on the first forge did I inject thru the Tee fitting, that was when I was trying to get by without building a new forge. If you look at all the photos in this thread: https://knifedogs.com/threads/new-forge.50681/ I think you'll see the injection point in the 2" blower pipe right in...

    Spindle sander?

The variable speed function isn't as important as I was thinking when I first saw the Wen portable spindle sander. "IF" I did the calculations correctly at 3200 rpm the "belt speed" will only be around 1500 SFPM with a 2" drum. With a 3/4" drum only around 600 SFPM at 3200 rpm. That's slow...

    Hedge post

We always left the bark on Black Locust fence posts - in wet ground they'd sometimes sprout and grow. If you removed bark no way they'd sprout then. Don't know anything about Osage Orange.

My forge build.....WIP......it's going to take a while!

I forgot to comment on the orifice. I currently am using a .070" size orifice in the nipple with tip located about mid point of the 2" blower tube. I removed the needle valve and adjust the flame with gas pressure and blower choke. With closed blower choke and about 5 psig it holds fairly...

My forge build.....WIP......it's going to take a while!

Ed is the real expert here, his health might be preventing him from chiming in just yet on the forge build. Ed really helped me with my build. Here are a couple of threads on my forge build, the first thread has lots of older info, but Ed has given me LOTS of good advice in this thread...

My forge build.....WIP......it's going to take a while!

Looking good. That's a very good question about burner size. Some folks have recommended 1.5" burner pipe, and on a different size a knowledgeable perhaps recommended a 1" pipe. I wound up using a 2" for the blower section to the 90 degree fitting, then a 1-1/4" pipe for the final burner...

Joe, You did good. See how many uses a RR spike has? :)

My forge build.....WIP......it's going to take a while!

Shucks, I wasn't even thinking about using the ends for doors. That will work just fine. What I did was leave the "front" end open for ease of lining the forge. I use firebricks for the end doors. Your forge is going to be a cadillac compared to my forge. What size burner tubes are you...

You're right, and once I get something in my mind it's hard to see the wrong spelling of it. WEN!!!! Not the little bird :)

Recommendations: Machinist Parallels 1/8? or 1/32?

1-2-3 blocks are a MUST HAVE around the shop. I've got 4 of them laying around and they're constantly getting used.

Recommendations: Machinist Parallels 1/8? or 1/32?

Another vote for the 1/8" thickness. The set I have is only 3" long, but it seems that all I see these days are 6" long. Is 6" parallels really that much better than 3" parallels? It seems like the extra 1-1/2" sticking outside my 3" machinist vise would be in the way. If I had a 6" vise I...

    Spindle sander?

I looked at the HF spindle sander, but it didn't seem to be as good. The HF spec'd at 19 lb and 1/5 hp while the Wren, Grizzly, etc are listed at ~30 lb & 1/2 hp. Cost of HF with 20% is $118.40 + $7 shipping for a total of $127.40 vs $140.67 shipped for the Wren. That is why I went with the...

    Spindle sander?

Tim, the Grizzly looks exactly like the Wren I got on Amazon, right down to the plastic inserts and even the listed weight seems to be the same.

    Spindle sander?

Interesting you started the thread Tim - I'd been thinking about starting a thread asking why more folks don't use a spindle sander vs a small wheel attachment. After One Armed mentioned the idea of getting one, I ordered this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KKXNWWX and it seems to be...

Looks good David, that should be pretty darn solid. You sure started a trend with your first post about building the SGA.
