    The Bowie is Completed!

A very clean well thought out design that was done with skill and craftsmanship. Congrats.

    Dust Collection

Good setup, and that top pipe on the 2X72 helps catch the sparks that stick to the belt when grinding. Good deal. Now, on the disk grinders - which do you use the most, vertical or horizontal? I've been thinking of moving my disk grinder to horizontal.

    Dust Collection

Here's a "strainer" I added to the bottom of the funnel to prevent dropping stuff down the "rabbit hole". The aluminum plate prevents heavy grinding sparks from melting the plastic funnel.

    Dust Collection

You talking about the dust collector? A bit over a yr ago I ordered this unit: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09XX61YD6?th=1 It does a good job of vacuuming. I've got it in a small shed outside on other side of the wall. With the dust collector outside the building it helps cut down on noise a...

302 Stainless Steel Shim for Damascus

OK, on USAKnifemaker I see they have "302 Stainless Steel Shim for Damascus" with no info on what it's used for. Is this for layering Damascus much like using a layer of nickle between layers of carbon steel to see a nice bright line in the final billet? Just what is it used for? Inquiring...

    Dust Collection

The container below the platen funnel has a few inches of water to keep any sparks from going thru the pipe to the dust collector outside the wall.

    Dust Collection

Well, based on a suggestion from reading a recent dust collection thread I decided to change my setup around some. I moved it from center of room where the only dust collection was below the platen to the wall. There I took somebody's suggestion about adding a collection point behind the drive...

What's going on in your shop?

That's "elven" blade for sure. I like the bottom knife with the inlays on the handle just above the bottom blade. Any of them will look good.

    Making a leather cutting knife.

When you mention "Leather cutting knife", are you referring to a rounding knife - something like this? On the type of metal, I tend to use AEB-L, but most any will work. I've not worked with D2, but I understand it's good stuff. 15N20 would work good. Be sure to use a thin blade, I like...

    The Laser Thread

Randy, did you use the laser to put the design on the sheath? Anyway you did it sure looks good. Good looking knife also.

    Benjy's KITH for FD Kingery

Impressive build - I'm especially impressed with that sheath using the insert. Looks good.

    The Laser Thread

I like the idea you mentioned about using a 4"X10" aluminum to hold 1/8" dowels to position the blade in exactly the same spot each time. With the plate positioned at same place, that will allow the 1/8" brass pins to position a blade so it will be easy to get the mark in exactly the right spot...

    More Damascus trial and error.

Kev, I'm more than impressed with your Damascus - While I'm not the photo tweaker I was years ago, but all your photo needed was a tad of lightening.

    More Damascus trial and error.

You sure did good on that Damascus. I tweaked the photo a bit to better show the pattern. That's really impressive

    I bought a laser engraver/cutter

You're right Josh - this is for sure a hobby for me. The wife says my "hobby" is actually tools and equip and I just sorta "piddle" at knifemaking :)

    I bought a laser engraver/cutter

Josh, you're just making the rest of us feel bad with our puny little 10 watt diode lasers! Congrats - that will actually engrave to some depth. I consider my OLM3 10 watt as "marking" on steel rather than actually "engraving" any depth into the blade. With all the new tech in lasers over...

    Ortur Laser Master 3

Here's another use I found for the laser. Here's the first sheath I made with laser. I should have taken a photo before I sewed it up so the blade could be seen laying inside the welt. Here's the knife laying on top of sheath and you can see it fits pretty good. Next time I'll make the...

What's going on in your shop?

Chris, that is the slickest stand I've ever seen. Very creative - and the woodwork on the stand looks really good. Color me IMPRESSED!

Another "I want to build a press" thread....

52 Ford really did some good modeling on on that thread. I'll say "Thank You" again to him. The modeling work allowed me to better understand the stresses involved.
