Testing An Idea With A 2x72

One of things I like to do is figure out ways to set up my 2x72 to grind in various configurations. I've had this idea about grinding a uniform chamfer on a handle to highlight layers of material, in this case micarta and G10. So I'll share some photos of the WIP in the early stages of creating a uniform chamfer. This is truly a "proof of concept" that has a long way to go. And, I'm not too sure how this handle will feel with sharp break edges at the chamfer... we'll see how that works. Stay tuned.
Here's the general grind idea, not completed.

Here's the general setup, using a 35 degree chamfer. I use various clamp-on extension plates in a lot of configurations.

Here's a view showing the short swing arm (it actually rotates 360). This short arm allows the main work rest to drop down and rotate to a more acute angle.

Having a rotating / horizontal grinder sure offers a lot of flexibility.

Here's how this handle grind turned out. After getting the entire handle chamfered it feels better in the hand than I thought it would. I intentionally did not give the handle a front-to-back taper because I wanted the facets to be equal in distance throughout the handle.

It looks fantastic! You definitely knocked it outside of the park as far as the uniformity. Not only that it’s a fine looking blade.

Very nice!
I have done similarly using a table router with a roller bearing guided 45 degree chamfer bit, as well as various roundover bits.
You just have to set the bit depth a tiny amount above the tang so you don't nick the bit.
