If you are like I am and trying to learn a little more about chemistry and physics involved in manipulating the various characteristics of steel using heat then this is a great free starting place. I stumbled on this while doing some research today. It just so happens that our resident steel expert, Kevin Cashen, has a lot of free information on his website concerning steel. Everything from chemistry to suggested uses and heat treatments. More than that, if you are looking to understand more about the properties of steel and how they can be manipulated then this is a good starting place. Kevin did not ask for this plug in any way, I just found the info and wanted to share it. http://www.cashenblades.com/info.html

God Bless you Chris. As I age I find that it doesn't take long to be forgotten in this business and I can't tell you how good it feels to hear that I have helped you enough for you to post this. There is no greater accomplishment than knowing you may have made a difference for some others.

Right now I am in the midst of the Herculean task of building an all new American Bladesmith Society website. Once it is done, I will be rebuilding the archaic www.cashenblades.com, and it will have much more information in a easier to use format. Now, or in the future, if I can ever be of any help to you in any way Mr. Railey, just let me know. You have no idea how inspiring your words are to me at this time.
