Oil Quenching 154CM

So I've been reading Jim Hrisoulas and he says that you can harden 154CM by raising it to critical temp and quenching in 'light' oil, which it seems he means stuff like transmission fluid. Anyone try this on this board? or seen it done? or heard rumors of it working?

I'm willing to give it a try, but looking for others' experiences.

Air cooling is fine, but Jim says it can be heated in a gas forge and cooled in oil, which i'm familiar with. Buying a kiln and programming temps, etc is new to me and more expensive than i want.

It can be done, but it is not ideal... oil quench is fine, no problems but the gas forge is a bit iffy, high alloy steels need to soak at the right temperature... or close to it for a good long while... that is hard in most forges, maybe with one purpose built for heat treating, but not for the general forging biased ones
