May I come in?

I don"t collect knives, but I sort of accumulate them. Anyway, last year I had some wood I wanted to see on a knife handle, and bought a knifekits.com kit to try it. Then a half dozen more before they started to come out right. Decided I need a slack-belt sander, found the NWGS plans, decided it was overkill and built it anyway. (Leaving out the no-weld part.)

I've been using it since then and learning, but got side-tracked (this always happens) and started obsessing over the machinery. So now I am working on a second grinder.

The profile has my real name; hope to have some projects worth talking about, eventually.

Welcome David! Please post some knife pics...AND...grinder pics! We all love to see works-in-progress!

Happy to oblige...

The machine is pretty much direct from the cookbook.

Motor and switch are spare parts from a band saw. Wrist strap and ground wire for static control.

Hinged motor platform for jockeying the belt.

Alignment and vibration are the top issues for V2. But it is an awesome machine!

Welcome to our place David. Building your own gear is a great way to have personal rather than financial investment in the knifemaking addiction.

I can see there are plenty of opportunities to burn money here if you want to. Also, it's nice getting to apply something I already know while learning something completely new. Makes me feel a little less out of my depth.

Anyhow, thank you all.
