Made a knife for my son

The last few months my son has asked "Dad, when are you going to make me a knife?" So one day he was out of school and we did not have a sitter so I stayed home with him. We started his knife. I laid out a bunch of patterns and told him to pick one. It was a pattern I drew up awhile ago but never made so I was all in. Then I told him to go pick out what handle he wanted...bright green! So we got after it.
I did most of the leg work but he helped me hand sand, he loved the drill press and so he drilled and chamfered the holes. It's made from 15n20 I heat treated it in the forge as him,sis and mom watched.
It was great having him in the shop with me, he said when he gets 10 or 12 he wants to make one by him self. He is 6 right now.
Anyway had to share, not my best pics but was in a rush.
Thanks for looking

You are that young man's hero!! There will be many happy hours ahead in the shop from the seed you just planted!! Good job dad!

(the knife is a real beauty!)

One of the best feeling a parent can have is for the son or daughter to show an interest and want to be involved with what Dad does. Your young fellers smile says it all.

Thank you guys very much for the comments.
In the fast passed life we live, phones and internet and the hours I put in at my day job sometimes I have caught myself getting wrapped up in the crap in all reality doesn't matter. The older I get and as my kids grow I have realized that alot of those things don't matter, it's my kids that matter the most. I try and take time to play with them, take them fishing, have fun and let them ride me like a bull, teach them right from wrong and be there for them when they need me.
The rest is just distractions from my true purpose in life.
Now my daughter is gonna need a knife :)
Thanks again for checking it out.

Wow, that's a nice knife for your boy Justin. I remember back in the day you could bring that to school for show and tell, ah...the good ol' days.
OK, so....has he shaved the hair off his arm yet ? :D

I'm old enough to see both sides of the good old day and young enough to see the change I remember after Columbine my senior year of HS was alot different no more guns in the back of our trucks and I had a buddy get in trouble for having a rifle shell in his pocket one day.
No arm shaving yet...he needs a little more practice

Wow! That knife looks great. I also look forward to the day when my wife and I have kids and making memories like that with them. I am curious though, what hardware did you use for your handle? Is that bolts of some kind, corby rivets or what? They look really good on that handle.

They are 2-56 button head screws. I threaded the tang of the knife before heat treat. Makes a nice secure fit it is also epoxyed together too.
