Maori Fin

Don't know if this is the correct forum, but... can anyone here tell me the purpose, if any, of a design element called the "maori fin"? I believe that is what it is called, the raise part of the top of a blade, as shown in the attached photo. I've looked, and can't find any info, so thanks for any you can provide.

What you are showing is not the portion that this guy refers to although I have not heard of it being called a maori fin here in NZ. This guy refers to the nose of his knife in that fashion but he also calls it a shark fin which I would think would be more universal.

Thanks for the response. I'm still left wondering, though, what purpose the "fin" serves, if any, other than looks, particularly now that I see that it has more than one name.

I've also seen them referred to as a harpoon blade.

Harpoon tip/raised clip/Maori fin......all the same thing. Its just a looks preference thing and serves no real function.
