Chrome is absolutely terrible???????????

So here it is a while back Chrome became my go to browser, it was great then it went in the toilet. It hangs it freezes and that is on a good day!

Then suddenly the clouds parted and the sun came out, the birds were chirping and Chrome was great again. Running better than ever! Not sure why but, never look a gift horse in the mouth!

Then it happened! My wife's FB account was suddenly in Spanish. At this point maybe I should tell you, I DO NOT SPEAK SPANISH! However ever confident this jock who never made it past typing one and was threatened by my typing teacher that if I took typing two he would fail me the first week!! Could fix the problem.

I guess at this point I should reveal I never touched a PC keyboard until my kids wanted their first, in 1995! So at Christmas we bought the first PC our household had seen. I begged my wife who had schooling in computers and who went to college and also worked using a computer! Anyway back to the story, I asked her to help me learn how to run a PC.
She showed me the basics of Windows 95. The program on our first PC and then she told me the only way to learn was to get on their and do it! Well I found myself places I had no idea how I got there but I kept trying! My first PC came with a reboot disc and thank God, as I crashed it so many times it was ridiculous! However learn I did and I have got to the point I may not be able to solve a problem the first try but, I usually do triumph!

Now back to the FB problem again. I finally went to a translation site and transferred key words like setting and language! In my quest to solve the problem I re-set settings of Chrome back to the default settings.
Did not help the FB problems but, I did finally figure out that language is idioma in Spanish! I eventually solved the FB problem.

Little did I know that by re-setting the settings on Chrome to default, it put me back in the crapper again. Freezes and slow working is just the language of the day, AGAIN! Now I know some are going to say well all you got to do is update. There in lays the probable. You see I told you I had learned, I also learned their are some really bad viruses out there and one killed my last PC!! Please listen for the little violin playing the death song!!!

My son in law had a small PC he used for college and I could use it as he was no longer using it!! The clouds parted once more and the birds sang. Then came the day he brought it too me and helped me set it up. That is when I discovered this is one of these you can use this but,..............it has this little problem!! You see I always thought Apple computers were better so I bought this one for school and then I discovered that to get on-line and do my courses for college that all of their courses were ran by Windows. So I took a disk I got for Windows 7 and installed it to run the courses. So when it says you may be a victim of a not so genuine copy of Windows and it asks you if you want to legitimize it and do updates. Well...............you can't update and unless you want to pay for the legitimizing of the old copy of Windows and.......................yep you are now getting the idea!!

So now here is sit trying to deal with freezes again and sloooooooooooooowness. I am now trying to remember how I found the fix for Chrome last time!!! I feel kind of like the old country song, Money can't buy you happiness but, it could buy me a new PC.

To think I almost took Spanish in HS instead of typing. That must be and oxymoron!! Oh wait a minute that wasn't typing the was English........I think!!:rolleyes::D

Gotta go now and punch a few more keys and see if I can fix Chrome or should I just go mix up some Lye in a bucket and drop this PC in it!!!:(:D:D:D:D:D

Feel better now Cliff? I have no real advice for you on computers or Chrome, but do share your frustrations. I do know how frustrating computers can be..... especially windoz driven computers. I think Win7 was the best out. I got my first computer for the family in '86 I think it was, a commodore 64. this for for the wife 'n kids mostly. Then in '87 ('88?) I got my first IBM XP clone - been fooling with them since. I recently changed to Linux Mint. Surfing the web, email, etc most folks would never know they're not on windoz - they've come a long way with Linux to make it easier.

Like you, I've been using Chrome for several years, but lately it does seem like it's been more of a hassle than before. I'm trying Firefox as I write this.

Why is it these companies have the best running program out there and they don't have enough sense to leave it alone. Then when it all goes bad, why does it take so long to get a fix!! I must be missing something with all the new technology!!

They have a bunch of IT guys trying to justify their existence.

I specifically downgraded my last PC on order to windows 7 home premium.(you could buy them that way since windows 8 was such a debacle...I took the hint and was glad I did) I left the automatic updates on.After a year or so I had been getting exciting offers to upgrade to windows 10....for FREE...yay. On morning I come into my shop and it had loaded windows 10 as an update. All I had to to was click on user agreement....took me about three hours of my time to back out. A complete install of a new version of windows IS NOT AN UPDATE. So now I do manual update and there sits their unwanted bloatware ready to Pounce on my PC. This is about the most unethical thing a company has pulled on me to date. If I was better on computers I would not run anything windows. And I am already using firefox for search engine.

You got to watch them updates, Ted!! I did once upon a time have so they had to notify of updates and then I had to be prompted to install or not. This PC I got now is sooooooooooooooo screwed up. There I go looking a gift horse in the mouth!! :D

I used to think a HD needed reformatting with fresh OS installed at least ever 6 months or so - keeps things nice 'n clean. Don't do that so much these days..... computers last a lot longer. I think the last OverClocking I did was with the 300 mhz pentium chips were out.

Same here. My most recent computer I had a guy build for me and I kept Windows 7. I only allow security updates. It runs every peripheral I have and it is bullet proof. I have zero need to upgrade, especially to later versions of Windows that basically take total control over your system and render many of your programs and peripherals obsolete. No thank you.

I don't want to spend all my time being an IT guy. I need a computer as a tool, not a plaything. All I want is a stable system that does what I need and gets me to the internet. I have been thrilled with Firefox. I want no traces of Google anywhere near anything of mine. As far as I'm concerned, Google is a spy/hacker organization.
