Stone Wash revisited

I asked about a Stone wash a few weeks back well I'm waiting for my ceramic media now. I have another question. After hardening and temper should I sand blade again to 400 grit or do I just pop it in the media and send it for a spin??

The finish going into the tumbler will have an effect on the final tumbled finish. I've been successful going in with a 220 grit finish, but generally the finer the sanded finishing, the better looking the tumbled finish will come out. For the majority, I find myself going to 600 prior to tumbling.

Once again Ed for the WIN!! Thank you!

Tumbling does very little to erase deep grind marks. In some cases it brings out the last grit the blade was ground at. Ed is right on, as usual, by taking it to at least 600. We use ceramic here in the shop as we tumble parts often and ceramic will finish sooner but it's not a requirement. Plain old river rock will work also but will be slower.
