So a couple years back my Dad had a stroke and he bounced back pretty good. But he's kinda given up. Anyway I went up to spend the day with him and my Mom. We went for a ride got some lunch went to a couple of his old haunts had a GREAT DAY!! I bring them home my Girl and I cooked Dinner and just hanging out shooting the breeze! A GREAT DAY!! So were talking about my newest knife I finished and I tell him about the Forge I built. My Dad says to me "Hey do you want my Anvil?" I say "what anvil" he says in the basement!I thought he was yanking my leg cause he's a joker! Well long story short turns out to be an 151LB Peter Wright anvil in ridiculously awesome condition. Pics to come!! WOW!! I was floored!!

PS: I keep changing the weight as I learn more about this Anvil I was thinking it said 1 11 which would have been 141, I missed the 1, 1, 11 which if I read the site I was on correct should make this 151LBS?

That is so AWESOME! Ya just gotta believe that you're headed in the right direction when something like that happens! Congrats!

Almost forgot he tells me somewhere lurking in the basement are some tools for the Hardy Hole!! Didn't find them yet but I hope too?? What a GREAT DAY though, I got to help make my Dads day by taking him out and hanging with him and then see him light up with joy when he found out that I wanted and was extremely excited about a big chunk of steel that hadn't been used in years!! Not to mention I was STOKED, and he made my day too!! This is a day I'll always remember for sure!!

Looks like a great anvil by the way. I'm going to an estate auction Saturday morning, they have what's listed as a 265+ Peter Wright anvil, hope no one else is interested, if so I might be able to get a good deal! I have a 100lb Fisher Norris now and would love something bigger

Good luck at the Estate sale!!

Awesome post! Your Dad obviously wanted to pass something on to you, that meant a lot to him!!

I wish everyday that I could still talk with mine. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't use something my Father either taught me, or one of his tools, or just think of him. Enjoy this time because, family is the only thing we truly have in this world that means anything!!

I grew up with my father telling me the "the ability to do comes with doing" and it has lead to a lifetime of making things that has proven his advise. By trying something the ability to do it is developed and bettered into a skill as it is repeated

Yes...and the more different things you learn to do...the more your experience crosses over. At least that's what I have found.

Agree with that wholeheartedly Ted. It is not so much the individual skills but the mindset that leads to those skills. I have always said that the main thing I got from school was not so much what I learned but HOW to learn as you put that ability towards everything else that you want to learn about and the same thing applies to learning skills. It is not the individual skills but how you go about understanding and aquiring the skills for any endevour that you desire to put your hand to.

Good SCORE!! Looks to be in hood shape! About getting it out... Tailgate down, reverse relatively fast slam on brake!! And hope it ends up about where you want!! LOL!!

Do you know anyone that has or can you rent a motor hoist? That should work quite well.

Otherwise you could get a length of 2x12 timber rested on the tailgate and work the anvile down to where you want it that way. You should be able to get it onto the stump base it will be bolted down to all in the one go if it is near the door of your shop.
