    Latest Field knife....getting better -RohdeEdge

Are you kidding? Pictures are great and the knife is an absolute beauty!! If I ever build anything remotely close to that I think I'll hang it up at that point. I don't see how it could get any better than that! Nice job!!

I'm a fellow new guy, welcome! I've yet to complete knife (5 in progress) but a lot of people on here have been very helpful and willing to share experience.

    Flat grind bevel angle?

Ed and Walt, Thanks for weighing in. I cut and profiled my first two blanks today. I can totally see what you mean about getting a feel for it and hand/knife positioning on the grinder and belts.

    Flat grind bevel angle?

I think I made my first of many errors and ordered a grinding jig that is too steep. The "pre-made" jigs offered were set at 25 deg angles, which seemed to lie-up with some of the things I was reading, but I'm now not sure if that is 25 total from one side to the other. The jig looks...

    Flat grind bevel angle?

@Brandon - I'm using 3/16 and that about the look I'm going for, so I think what you suggested will work as a good starting point. Thanks!

    Flat grind bevel angle?

I'm sure there are endless answers to this question, but in general, what would be a good bevel degree to be on a flat grind knife - intended for hunting/field dressing?

1x30 or 2x42 for the beginner

Again, great info guys! @BR, well stated and very true of the situation I find myself in. I'll dip my toes in (figuratively and financially) and see where the madness takes me! Thanks for sharing!

1x30 or 2x42 for the beginner

Need help from you knife vets, I'm going to purchase a belt sander, but am not sure if one or two inch belts would be better for starting out? In my pea sized brain I feel like 2IN would make it less likely for me to mess up the bevel, but that's not based on experience. Anyone care to weigh in...

    Hello from the cheesehead state

Thanks Wall e. I need a few more items and I think I'll be ready to give it a go. My biggest struggle right now is deciding if I want to set up a little more of a fixed shop space, or keep it mobile - so I can do some inside work on bad weather days. I may even go with a third idea and roll it...

    Hello from the cheesehead state

I don't have FaceBook. What's the best way to contact you and do you have a day or two you generally do knife work on?

    Hello from the cheesehead state

@Franklin - I met you this past weekend at the Janesville show. I tried sending you a text to see if you were still willing to let me have a sit-in while you grind a bevel at your shop, but I'm not sure if you have texting on your phone. I'm around most evenings and would jump at the chance to...
