    Very nice indeed.

    Carbon chrome?

Well I did some research and it seems to be a tool steel that's was/is usually used in bearings. It's not classified as stainless and does corrode if exposed to wet conditions for long. It seems the chrome in the mix is for toughness/longevity. That explains to me the shine it has and also...

    Hello everyone!

Welcome. I haven't been in this forum for long and don't forge myself (too old can't handle the heat/hard work any more) and have been customizing handles on others blades for awhile now to get just what I want in a knife. By the looks of your pics. you have the handle part pretty much in...

    OPauls Knife Picture Thread

You have an excellent eye for grain orientation on these knives. They are simple yet quite beautiful. Well done. I think anyone would and should be proud to own any one of them.

    Morland Picture Gallery

Very nice. I like the color combinations you've done there. It also looks as if it feels good in the hand. I'm also a fan of deep sheaths and I really like this one, no metal to get in the way, scratch things up or get hung up on things. Easy to stow in ones kit for traveling, camping etc.

    Carbon chrome?

I have an old steak knife that says "carbon chrome" on the blade. The last 1/16" or so of the point is dark but not rough. There are a few small rough spots (like a matte finish instead of mirror like around them........corrosion? It was made by Henley & Co. probably mid century with a carved...

Filling worm holes in Osage Orange

I like the powered pigment from K&G. I use their epoxy as well. I mainly use the black powder, a little goes a long way and it doesn't seem to affect cure time or strength much, at least in my experience with it.

Filling worm holes in Osage Orange

I've only used the powered pigments and fine sawdust/bone dust etc. and have never had any problems. I am careful to not add anymore than needed for the effect desired. If using sawdust I dry it in the oven at the lowest setting on a low humidity day for awhile and use it as soon as it cools...

    Etched and colored vintage knife.

Life is great even with the aches and pains. It's like my 89 year old mother said just before she passed..... "Gettin' old ain't for sissies"

    Etched and colored vintage knife.

Well I just turned 70 and am still going semi-strong. Been pruning trees and digging holes with my big steel diggin' bar for more trees (rocky ground). I guess if I don't keel over doing that I don't have alot to fear from whatever toxins might be left in an old steak knife. I like using...

Yea I think my wife is going to nab it because it's "cute" LOL.

    Etched and colored vintage knife.

I probably won't use it unless I know more about the coloring on the blade. The animal appears to be carved from the handle. They seemed to have access to very nice stag back in the day. My wife asked if it was added as well but on close examination I can see that it is carved into the handle...

    Etched and colored vintage knife.

Hello all. I have this nice little stag antlered steak knife by Anton Wingen Jr. with colored etching on the blade. Does anyone know what they used to color the etching and if it's food safe?
