Allen and I have been working on this for almost a year! huh1

Now after all this time, we put the proto together this weekend here at my shop. Still have to heat treat and grind the blade.

It looks like the lock bar is replaceable, I see 2 dowel pins and 2 screws.

Great idea. 2thumbs

Les George
03-01-2010, 03:12 PM
it's a stainless steel lock bar insert that gives gives us the benefits of a replaceable stainless lock face and the benefits of a titanium lock bar. This one is held together with 4 stainless steel pins that we peened in place, we haven't decided who we will to the rest of them, screws or pins.

These are technically midtechs, but they have a lot of hand work in the handles and hand ground blades. We will do them in limited, small batches that will have some varied features and finishes.

Howdy!

Les I noticed you changed the pivot to the new one; looks good! Les has a lot of secrets; one of these days he might come out of the closet :p

Since we are both Marines I wanted to call it Devil Dog stogie but Les thought it was a little corny.

We'll put up more photos and WIP soon.

Cerberus, (pronounced /ˈsər-b(ə-)rəs/ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:IPA_for_English)[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerberus#cite_note-m-w-0); Greek form: Κέρβερος, pronounced [ˈkerberos] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:IPA)[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerberus#cite_note-1)) in Greek (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_mythology) and Roman mythology (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_mythology), is a multi-headed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polycephaly) hound (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hound) (usually three-headed[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerberus#cite_note-m-w-0)[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerberus#cite_note-2)[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerberus#cite_note-3)) which guards the gates of Hades (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hades), to prevent those who have crossed the river Styx (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Styx) from ever escaping.

A little over a month ago I went down to Les' place to work on this prototype. We had to make this prototype and figure out the logistics of our midtech project. After several weeks of hard work, Les and I are working on the midtechs and can show the WIP. It is going to show that there is a lot of hand work involved. In this set of photos I am drilling and counter boring the G-10 handles; also drilling and counter boring one of the titanium frames for the screws. The spacer needed to be drilled for the screws as well.

Allen Elishewitz
04-14-2010, 02:54 PM
In this set of photos I'm finishing the G10 handles with a counterbore. The other pics show me peening the heat treated lock insert into the titanium frame. After doing all the peening my freaking forearm was sore.

For my own information, this blade steel is 154CM and NOT CPM154, correct? I have seen both mentioned on the web. Thanks for clearing up my confusion and I look forward to getting mine today. Wish I had gotten the green but the black will do just fine. Wait, can I change the color to pink for the Wife?

Les George
04-28-2010, 01:12 PM
I'm a moron! :) It is 154CM. We had wanted CPM 154, but at the time when we bought the steel, it was not available due to Crucible's financial and production issues.

I always use CPM 154 myself, so I forgot that these are not the same for a second. Let me go chase my comments down and try to fix it!

Thanks!
