Thanks for the welcome and I am very happy to have this new forum on KnifeDogs.

I guess it is appropriate to tell you a little about me for those of you who don't know me. I have been making knives since 2003 after learning the craft from my friend Gil Hibben. I spend 4 years learning and making knives before I felt I was ready to offically launch Carter Crafts, LLC and start selling them in 2007.

I was accepted into the Knifemakers Guild as a probationary member in 2007 and earned full voting membership in 2009. I am also on the board of directors of the Kentucky Cutlery Association, a knifemaker charter member of Knife Rights, member of the National Knife Collectors Association and a member of the National Craft Association.

I make my knives using the stock removal method and use a variety steels and handle materials. I make a wide variety of styles and every knife is unique as I do everything freehand without automated machinery or jigs. I only make a couple of regular models. Most of my work is for custom orders although I do make some to sell at shows or on my website when I have time.

I will make whatever a customer wants within my ability but my personal preferences are 440C, 154 CM, and CPM 154 stainless steel, mirror polished and fitted with exotic wood, stag or mammoth ivory handles. My most popular knives at shows are my little neck knives and most of my custom orders are for large Bowie knives.

I am not quite a full time maker (yet) but it is about 75% of what I do for a living. I also do some photography, writing, and manage a few websites. I have written several feature articles for Blade magazine and have also been published in Knives Illustrated and other knife related publications.

Enough bragging . I will be putting some knives up for sale here on KnifeDogs and you can also check them out on my website http://www.cartercrafts.com . You can also find my schedule of shows on my website.

Of course, if you don't see what you want, I'll do my best to make it for you. I really enjoy working throught the process of working up sketches, offering ideas for materials and styles, and working with my customers to come up with a really special one-of-a-knid custom knife just for them.

Feel free to ask question, make comments and offer suggestions. Thanks for looking.

Mike
