I kinda like it but I've got mixed feelings on it. I think on the right blade, it would look great if it complicated the finish on the rest of the knife.
I think if you bright polished the blade up to the bevel, it would really pop, either naked or with a paracord wrap handle with some of the acid wash showing!

Nicely done! What grit did you take it down to?

400 grit, blast, stone wash, ferric chloride, stone wash.
Times in each are personal preference.
Does the acid wash leave the metal more porous and prone to corrosion, like most bead blast finishes?
I live is South Carolina and haven't owned a knife yet with a bead blast finish that wouldn't rust in my pocket in a day!

No it dose not. If anything it helps protect against corrosion. Because when you etch it, in a sense is controled corrosion. Also the stone wash is very smooth and scratch resistent. So both together arn't fool proof, but help.

Describe a 'stone wash'. I'm unfamiliar with the technique, but LOVE that finish.
I must have your secrets! :beg:

Stone wash = Vibratory tumbler
There are several threads around here that talk about it, there are some pics of my rig and list of media on this page:

I think it's a winner. Like you guys have been talking about it is not only ascetically pleasing to the eye, but it is a much more resistant than just a blast finish or satin for that matter. In my opinion it is probably the best tactical/utility finish you can do w/o using some sort of coating that is just going to wear off over time and use.
I still need to get my blast cabinet set up and once I do I will be experimenting with this finish as well. I have been getting some very good results with my new tumbler. Got some crazy media mixes going on that has yielded some cool finishes, but I just can't quite get what I have been aiming for w/o a blast cabinet.

Cool finish. I think it might look even better, if the blade was taken to a higher grit finish first, though.

No one asked you Dan! :p :p j/k man! :)
I ground it to about 800 grit, but the flats are as they came precession ground... And it's only ground on one side :p

I love it! You don't see it and I think thats what I love the most but also its kind of like a subdued stone washed finish and I like that finish also although I do neither. Anyway, nice job my friend. 2thumbs
