OK I've had a chance to look over all the parts and get an idea of how I'm going to do this. I found one problem (at least for how I build liner locks) and it means I'll have to make a new blade, but I'm going to use 1095 for the new blade because I'm hoping to put a nice temper line in the blade. In picture #2 you can see the placement of the detent ball in the lock tab but in picture #3 you can see that the ball will fall off the tang in the half closed position, so I'll eliminate the dip in the tang and find another way to accommodate the the closed stop position. I was going to use IKBS on this one but since I won't be hardening the tang I decided to just use teflon washers.

I probably won't use most of the screws that Tracy provided so if anyone needs my extra hardware just let me know. That's all for now :)

Thats what happens when you hurry things! I just plain missed that. :confused:I can cut new blades and fix the problem.????

My kit hasn't arrived yet but I assume that will be a problem for all of us. The stop pin rests against that dip if I remember correctly from the paper model cut out I did of the pattern.

David it's no big deal to me, I have the steel and I'll just use the blade I have as a pattern.

Don't you have to harden the tang so the lock doesn't wear?

Well the ti is soft so I don't see it wearing the steel, it is possible that it could be prone to be sticky but I can handle that.

The detent is kind of an interesting problem I fooled around with the blade some and the tang end needs to be extended by a 1/4 +- and change the pivot location to make the detent ball work. I'll make some card board pattens tomorrow and fool around with it to see what I can come up with.

Tim, if you look at the 3rd picture and imagine just taking out that dip in the tang and making it straight it will cover the track of the detent ball, it's still a little close but it's doable without major modification.

You can still harden the tang and create a hamon Les -- Just clay the blade and put a thin wash in the pivot area and stop-pin parts (to keep them from decarbing) and use a 3/16 rod to hold your blade or a wire attached to it if using your kiln. Grabbing them with tongs will suck all the heat out. I hope that made sense. :haha:

Les I see what you mean so that the blade follow or is just a little proud of the edge of the frame.

David I had a good show but the pressure seems to keep building.

I have to apologize for my tardiness in this event, the knife is in liners and I have photos up to this point but I started falling behind on my orders so I had to spend my evenings trying to catch up. I will finish the knife so it can be auctioned, it just won't be in the competition. I'll try to get wip photos up at lunch today.

OK here we go, I'm going to re etch and mark the blade before I send it to Tracy tomorrow but I pretty much finished it on Saturday. The only modification I did to the knife was to shorten the handle in front and moved the front hole for the bolster back. I only have WIP photos for the 1st few hours of work, then I just went full speed and finished it on Saturday. I did a clay temper and it came out ok.
