Here's a folder that I just finished. The scales are 1/8" Blacksite Carbon Fiber that I got from Tyson at the 2009 Blade Show. The blade and spacer are 1/8" 440C and the liners are jeweled .050" titanium.

I like that textured CF Mr. Bill, very nice!

I like that textured CF Mr. Bill, very nice!

Thanks :) - it doesn't show the twill as nicely as a smooth finish. However, the texturing did produce an interesting pattern.

I dig it, what grit did you take it down too?

Bill Coye
11-28-2009, 05:58 PM
I usually texture G10 with 120 grit in the interest of leaving a grippy surface.

The CF was textured with 240 grit in an attempt to bring out as much of the twill pattern as possible.

Les, what do you take your finishes to with CF?

400 on the belt, then some 600 by hand, then buff it pretty good... :D

Sometimes I use a X16 belt after the 400.

Right on.

GLWJ called and said my folder parts are cut. Soooooooooooo,
just wanted your take on finish as I'm sure some CF will wind up on at least one of those knives.

Gracias.

Slack belt is your friend for that ;) Ya just gotta make sure you don't round out the screw holes with the hand sanding or the buffing, it's really easy to do....

Ah, yes.

That was question #987.

Thank you,

Thanks guys for sharing the photos and thank you Les for starting this thread. I've only gotten a handful of photos sent to me but I did just see a sweet Terzoula using my Marbled CF on BladeArt.com. The Marbled is easy to spot but the easiest way to recognize my carbon is by the black dyed epoxy.

Stupid question Les....... What is it? It almost looks like a candle stick, but I know you would never turn a candle stick for Bianca when you could be making something cool and tactical.

Nevermind! it just dawned on me what it is. Where's the rest of it?

Bringing this thread up from the depths! I've used lots of Tyson's CF and his stuff rocks. Here's a few shots of some Hatcher/Blacksite combos - these were all made using his 690 material. I'll be trying his 670 material soon!

Thanks for bumping this one up Ben.

I've only used it on 2 knives so far, but I'm certainly a fan.
