Don't you start grinding before heat treat?

I thought that was the best way to go...


Huge amount of work ahead of you BTW!

I surface ground these before I sent them to HT, but I do about 90% of my work post HT.

This way I dont have to worry about the blade warping during HT. since I hold it in my hand when I grind, my hands will burn a long time before the steel gets too hot.

Other than that, the belts dont really seem to care if it's hard or not.

I was surprised to hear how many guys did this when I first heard too. It seems counter intuitive....

That would be a small Rockeye (3.25 inch blade) :) I really like that design in all 3 sizes! :)

Its similar to the one I made for T. @Blade show. Same wood, blade, just different bolster and the pivot trim ring on the back. Over all knife is a little slimmer too, if I recall correctly....

Really like that one. The elements are so proportionally sized correctly that I thought it was much bigger by the first picture unti I saw the in hand pics. Looks great.
