Here comes a little tutorial on how i make scandi sheat. I hope someone can find it useful :). You have to excuse my bad school english and spelling.
This is a new way for me to make sheats so i am still learning. I have made sheats another way before. This new way is descibed in a booklet that Thomas Löfgren wrote a few years back.
Start with marking on a thick paper after the blade contour.cut out the paper patterns that you will tape on the blade i use 3 or 4 pcs on the front side and 2 or 3 on the backside.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Patterns-on-the-blade.gif
Cut the patterns so you dont will see any paper outside the blade.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Paper-pattern1.gif
When i fasten the pattern on the blade i use tape that i cut in about 5 mm wide stripes and fold so you have glue on both side and put on 2 on each side. When i use carbon steel i will put on some grease so it not start to rust, becouse we will use wet leather when we make the sheat.
When you have fasten the paperpattern you put on that sort clay the children use find some that its not oil in. put it on on the front side of the blade. Press it on and start were the blades start. make it even with the handle. We do this becouse we want a nice crossing betven the handle and blade part on the sheat.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/The-pattern-cut-out-and-cla.gif
Then you wrap the hole knife in plastic foil. We do so the leather dont dry direct on the knife, if so the sheat will be to small. Wrap it 3-4 times around the knife.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/wrapping-plasticfoil.gif
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/The-foil-wrapped.gif
Then we fold a A4 paper on the middle i use one that has 5 mm squres on it. Mark were the you were the point of the blade will be.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/sheat-paper-folded.gif
And mark at the paper were you want the sheat to stop at the backside of the sheat.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/sheatpaper.gif
Mark again aprox 10 mm above the first mark.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/knife-in-paper.gif
Cut of all the unnecessary paper.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/Cut-out.gif
Then you must hold the paper very tight around the knife. Lay the knife with the back to the left and use your nails to mark against the blade and handle all the way. Start at the blade point.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Naggar.gif
Put the knife in the folded paper with the blade point on the mark.

Mark with a pen were you got the marks from the nails.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/Pattern1.gif
The you mesure 5 mm from the first line all the way. I mesure on some regulary and then conect the points.
With semi rawhide you have to mesure about 5 to 5,5 mm. With shaft leather 3,5-4 mm. Semi rawhide will shrink more than shaftleather, thats why you have to have about 5 mm on it. Its a little try and error with this, becouse different hides react different.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/Pattern2.gif
Then you have to mark were were you going to attach the belt loop. Like i have done on my pattern. But start from the highest marking. I marked a little wrong on the picture.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/Pattern-folded.gif
Then you fold the pattern and cut after the added 5 mm line.

Put the leather with the meatside against the bench. Then you draw the outlines with the pattern on the leather. I cut after lines with my bandsaw. With the table at an angle of 30-45. If you will use a knife and use semi rawhide you have to cut with wet leather. Put the leather with the meatside down. Then angle the knife and cut.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/on-leather.gif
Then i put the leather in a bowl of water for a couple of minutes.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/in-water.gif
Then i put it in a plastic bag over the night in the fridge.

Now i start to sew the sheat. I use two needles when sew exactly as most of us do. In Sweden we call it saddlemaking seam.
But first i transfer the two lines from the pattern to the sheat just make short markings. If you going to use light colors, use a pencil otherwise you can use a pen. The i cut of the sheat point a bit to get a good finished result. Then i make the first 1/3 of the sheat a bit thinner so it will be easyer to bend the sheat and it looks nicer. its the bottom part of the sheat i make thinner.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/1.gif
Then i mark were i want my seam. i use a speciel tool for it. You can buy it everywere i think Tracy have it.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/2.gif
Then i mark up how far apart i will have the stiches. With a kind wheel with points. A common tool to. Its very important that you mark exactly in the marking of the first tool.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/4.gif
Then i make the holes were the marking after the wheel is with an awl.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/5.gif
Then i start the sewing with two needles, I use a croocked awl when i sew to make holes a bit bigger. Start in the bottom of the sheat so you can finish the seam in a good way.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/6.gif
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/7.gif
You stop at first of the two markings you transfered from the pattern.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/8.gif
Then you sew down two stiches, and the third stich you "sew" in to the sheat and make a not in the sheat.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/9.gif
Now its time to cut out the uper part of the sheat. Put the knife in to the sheat as you want it to be when the sheat is finished.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/10.gif
Then you mark out how you want it to be. Start at the second of the two markings and finish at second mark at the other side to.
Then you cut after the marking, with an angle on the knife ( Tracy have very nice knives for this work.) so you can press the leather against the knife and have a nice finsh.

And now for the beltloop. I start with cut a leather peace that mesure about 12 mm wide and 170 mm long.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/1-1.gif
Then i put on a D-ring, fold the leather piece and glue it.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/2-1.gif
When it dryed i put it on the backside of the sheat were i want the the belt loop. Most often in the center of the sheat so it will balance nice when i have it in the belt. Then you can put the leather strap in glass of water for a minute.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/3-1.gif
Mark on each side of the strap on three places.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/4-1.gif
Then cut the holes, just inside the markings. If you make the holes to much a part they will show to much when its finished.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/5-1.gif
Then you join the holes with with a cut. Remember to angle the knife right when you cut. I hope it will show at the pictures. Its important when you fasten the strap.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/6-1.gif
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/7-1.gif
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/8-1.gif
Then start to put on the strap, like you do when you sewing.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/9-1.gif
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/10-1.gif
Then you press the wet leather so the strap will sit tight. Then i mark the sheat with my name.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/11-1.gif
Well the sheat is almost finished now. Just the last beltloop to make. I dye the sheat now both outside and inside. put in the knife and let it dry for about 4 days.

I cut a leatherstrop that is about 12 mm wide and 170 mm long. I chamfer the edges of the leather.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/Strap.gif
Then i decorate the strop with some lines.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/strap-with-lines.gif
Next step is to make the half holes were the D-ring will be. When i do that i will put on the strap as i want it to be. Remember to have enuogh room for the belt 35-40 mm. Mark with a pen were the D-ring will be when you have the sheat in your belt. You will also mark were you want the screw to be. The screw that holds the strap togheter. I use chicago screws. Mark with the pen at the side of the strap, so you can see from the side how you want it to be.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/Beltloop.gif
When i mark for the chicage screw i mark the center of the strap that will be on top and how far up i want the hole. Here i will use the markings i did on the side of the strap. from the mark i go in to the center and make the markings. when i know were i want it, i cut the hole in the "first" layer. Than i put it toghether again as i want it and make a marke thru the first hole into the second layer and cut that. Then i take the second layer and make the last mark thru it into the last layer. Now you should have centered holes thru the strop. Know you take it strap and cut the halfholes were you did the markings for the D-ring. Cut into the lines you did for decorating.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/Cuts.gif
Know you can dye the sheat and strops. Here is the dyed strop.

Backside.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/Sheat2.gif
And the sheat with knife.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u288/seved/Tutorial%20slida/Sheat2.gif
Know i will dye it ones more mount the the strap with the pull it togheter good maybe you use some glue on the screw. Then i oil everything times and its finished.
I hope you understand something of what i have tryed to show. If you have any questions just ask me i try to help if i can. :D
GOOD LUCK
