Here's another project that had been laying around in the shop for several months. Hopefully by tomorrow I can start attaching a stick to it.

That's looking great Ray! Are you going to leave it forge finished, or hand sand this one?

Ray,

If I ever get far enough across this great country for a visit, remind me to keep my itchy feelings to myself  :D

I just had this one soaking in vinegar for a few hours. Still thinking about leaving it forge finish.

Are you still serving? Thanks for your service!

I spent part of today cutting and shaping the haft. I used hickory for this one. The object on the right is what I used as a pattern for the haft. I just need to decided how I want to finish it off now. The head will remain forge finished.

Ray that's just beautiful. No one makes hawks the way you do - which should come as no surprise. :D Can't wait to see what kind of finish you put on that haft.

I love it when you shape the handles that way Ray. This one looks a bit more curved than the one I bought ---- if it feels even half as good it's a real winner.

Eli, I'm pretty sure when I did the haft for yours I started with a narrower piece of wood so I had to go straighter with the haft. If I had remember how I did yours I would have done the samething. When I traced the new one it was done on a 6" piece of wood so I didn't have to fudge any. :D This new one is much better than yours. huh1

I got an idea while working on this hawk for a "gun stock war club". Never done one. Seen enough pictures and drawings and the help from Mister Woody I got the shape drawn out last night. I almost cut it out last night but was afraid my neighbors would jump out of bed if I turned on my Skilsaw.

Can't wait to see the war club!

I finally came up with a color I liked so this is pretty much what it will look like when finished.
