I won a couple of roller bearings at the knife guild meeting a couple of weeks ago. I'm not certain what type of steel they are, but I'm guessing they're D2, which I have no way to heat treat. I'd like to trade them for a similar amount of simple carbon steel or maybe some wrought iron.

Aren't roller bearings made of 52100 ?

Yeah, evidently so. That's what I've been told on here and another forum, so if anyone would like to try some of that I'd still like to trade for some carbon steel.

I've still got these bearings if anybody might be interested in them. I'd love to get some short pieces of 5160 or a 10xx series steel for them.

Hey Jonathan those make some of the toughest knifes so go to a friend with a power hammer if you donít have one (they are really hard to forge those bearings) draw it out and then forge some blades I think the heat treating is not that difficult.

Iím going to start using 52100 for a couple of blades for myself. I have a friend that uses 52100 and all I hear is about how sharp these knifes stay!

Thatís if you want to use it is only my opinion!
