Things are coming a long nicely! :devilzeek

Backed up a little and hit the grinder with 220, then 400. I had a little warp at the tip to grind out. No big deal, all gone now. I took the flats to 1000 grit on the disk first...

http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc48/gtasteel/PICT0003-3.jpg

Then it's off to the hand sanding....

http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc48/gtasteel/PICT0012-2.jpg

Of course it hasn't rained here in God's country for 6 months, but it's been like this ever since Thursday morning....

http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc48/gtasteel/PICT0021-1.jpg

Anyway, this plus work equals the bucket!

http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc48/gtasteel/PICT0028-2.jpg

http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc48/gtasteel/PICT0069-3.jpg

Also takes a few disks...

Then you can have this...

http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc48/gtasteel/PICT0023-2.jpg

Add a little magic pipe...

http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc48/gtasteel/PICT0031-2.jpg

And now you can see what's up!

http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc48/gtasteel/PICT0033-2.jpg

http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc48/gtasteel/PICT0035-2.jpg

A little more sanding...

http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc48/gtasteel/PICT0052-2.jpg

hard to get a good shot of the hamon....

This is the one time where it's OK to double up on the protection....

http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc48/gtasteel/PICT0075-2.jpg

Time to start hookin' up the guards... all 4 of them....

Here are the last of the WIP pics, I think...

FINALLY the weather broke and it's back above 70deg! I dont think I could have taken it much longer...:couch:

get some music going and get to it! :)

http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc48/gtasteel/PICT0004-6.jpg

I figured that I better bust out the big wheel for this one. Considering it is probably the nicest grinding wheel in the world....

http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc48/gtasteel/PICT0002-6.jpg

Once I got things pretty well set I started the hand work... :nutz:

http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc48/gtasteel/PICT0008-6.jpg

Hey Les,

That's a good looking hamon. Don't believe I've ever seen that particular clay-up style. Seems to have worked well.

Thanks for talking me though it, that was my first time!

Folks, Gary is a good friend of mine and a heck of a knifemaker. If you like Japanese style tacticals, check out Gary's web site.

Me again stalking this knife.:o
I was studying these guards on this knife tonight. Looks killer.

After the wood was slipped between the guards did you finish everything out by hand after that?
I would like to start putting guards on my full tang knives but im really not familiar with it. I guess they are just pinned like you did ?
Anyways thanks for the inside look at your process.

I do very little hand work. I shape as close as I can with the grinder then final finish by hand
