View Full Version : Scales

I think I may quit buying wood scales and buy blocks, then cut them on the table saw to make scales. Most scales are not perfectly flat and I usually have trouble with getting them good and flat. If I cut the blocks on the table saw, I usually can get them to where I do not have to grind them to get them flat.

I use a miter saw to cut mine. I don't trust a table saw... And my dad built a small fixture that works well to cut 3/8" scales.

If you're gonna go with a Table Saw you may want to consider a Thin Kerf Blade.
Less waste of wood that way.
Not much, but less.

A Band Saw wastes the least, but it can be difficult to get a straight cut.

Build a small fence that bolts or clamps to the bandsaw plate with a magnetic level stuck on, just and L bend and some clamps would do it .

I use a very thin carbide blade on the table saw.
