I was looking around to find out info about maybe having some knives hard chromed and fond this stuff.

I had them do a 3V folder blade and this is the result. Now it's time to see how it holds up! :)

The other knife is to help show the color difference.

Does the coating affect the sharpening of the blade at all ? I see it's in excess of 78 rc.
What was your method of sharpening after it was coated ?

I sharpened it after coasting, as usual, on the belt.

This is the 98Rc coating.... :)

Les, what prep work was required for the finish of the blade for coating? Also, at such a high Rc, what is the liklihood of chipping?

I sent them a tumbled blade that still have some very fine lines visible under the tumble, just to see if it would cover them up. It covered up eerything, but the lines where very fine, probably 400 grit.

They sent me some very thin test tickets too to play with. I can bend them 90 deg and they dont chip or bother it a bit. I left some of the logo etching electrolite on the samples and they rusted, but it was mild sheet under there and the electrolite can rust ANYTHING!

As with ALL coatings, it's not IF it comes off, but how much does it take to get it off. EVERY coasting can get worn off, just like you can break anything.

looks good how does it shed contaminants such as tape residue from opening over taped boxes
