Well, I finally got the chance to forge out my first blade yesterday! I got a copy and have watched Ed Caffrey's Basic Bladesmithing about 10 times. Thanks to Ed for the great video! Boy, does a Master Smith make it look easy. Mine does not look anything like Ed's but it does look like the basic shape of a knife. And let me tell you what, I sure was a lot of fun!!! i am looking forward to doing this more often!

Looks cool do you have a picture of what you started with round or flat stock?

Thanks for the kind words about the video! Don't despair! My first 1/2 dozen came out looking a LOT worse than that one did! :) As time goes by, your hammer will "learn" what it's suppose to do...and it will become second nature.

I always tell folks..."Where else can a guy play in fire all day...and not get into trouble!" :) Once you go through the entire process a couple of times, from forge to finished blade, you will begin to see how each step effects the next...just takes a little time and repetition. And as you said, It's a lot of fun!
