I plan on buying some ATS-34 to use for some custom knives of mine but ive only heat treated 1095 carbon steel using a fire pit in my backyard. would anyone happen to know the procedure for properly heat treating ATS-34 without the use of specialized equipment? if not would anyone happen to know what i need to heat treat it properly and around how much it would cost me? Thanks.

As for your question, as far as I know all stainless steels need to have a controled temp oven where you can ramp and soak for certain periods of time.
A lot of makers get a heat treat oven for this.
I however am currently sending my blades to Peter's heat treat.
Here is a link to their subforum

They charge around $15.00 per blade for just a few plus shipping.

you can ask Brad questions in the above link or email/call him
