Want to get like a a Kanca post vice, but I really can't bury the stand in the ground nor do I have a handy stump What is the best way to mount one?

Mount it to anything sturdy or very heavy. I used to have mine mounted to the stand for my Fly Press because the stand was bolted to the floor of my shop. Then I made a custom striking anvil/swage block holder/welding table that turned out pretty heavy so I got a friend to actually weld the post vise mount to the striking anvil. Now, when I go offsite to do demos and such I have a free standing post vise, striking anvil and swage block holder by only moving one thing. It works out nicely.

If you have a metal scrap yard within driving distance you'll find something there. A manhole cover, a piece of schedule 80 pipe and a top plate is all you need. Our local one often has a pile of manhole covers or other plate steel that would be ideal.
