New pattern for me

I like the looks of the old Western boot knives and created a pattern of one on cardboard and traced onto a blank of 1080 but is too narrow but it turned out ok I think.
No I have not cut the steel yet. Am going to make a wood model this weekend.
So I am asking for input as to what could be better aside from using wider stock and dye and scribes.

Doesn't really look too narrow in the pic, what's the width of the steel?

Walt a easy rule of thumb,if you have to narrow up then shorten up.looking foreward to seeing what you come up with.

Is about 1.25 or 1.5 I didnt measure was a half crocked pre coffee idea Steve. Lol kinda want to have the same guards as the Western but then again dunno?
AkWildman the only thing that was lost is just part of the guard. May just run a slight mod on the pattern to not infring on copy rights.

Thanks for the advice though. Will remember that if the stock and pattern don't match up again.
