Drilling the detent

I know this should probably go in the folding knife section..just hoping to get an answer,so I can finish these up

On my folders,I have always drilled the detent ball hole as close to the end of the lockbar as I could get it....Does it really need to be as close to the end of the as possible?..This may be an elementery question,especially with as many folders I have made.Just one of those small details I am not real sure about

Keith, I think there is a direct relaltionship with the placement of the detent ball and the size of the blade. Smaller blades require it to be placed as close to the end as possible. Larger blade give you a little more latitude for placement. On my small blades, I had a problem with it falling off the blade as it rotated. Not a good thing. As long as it rides on the blade, I think you re okay. Just my 2 cents worth. I hope othere chime in here.
