Am I crazy? Or...

Hey guys, i recently started working with 5160, after only working with 10 series steels previously, and I have a couple questions... First off, am I crazy or does 5160 have a very distinct (borderline gross) smell when you grind it? Secondly, since I started grinding 5160 , the sparks have started several fires in different spots in my shop. Now, I've been grinding 1075/95 for over a year, and the sparks haven't started one fire. What's up with that? What is It about 5160 that makes the sparks so much hotter?

Thanks y'all
Stay sharp

i can't speak for 5160 but AEB-L dust clumps and burns like crazy. Never run a dust collector without a water trap if you use AEB-L.

Also- i hope you are wearing a respirator. You shouldn't be smelling anything until you take it off. Apologies for that remark, but I would hate to hear you got sick. Breathing steel dust will eventually kill you.
