Japanese pareing knife.

I bought this knife from Comet (Trey Richburg) at Paul Lebatard's hammer In, Saturday.
Trey makes very fine Japanese style kitchen knives. I'm not familiar with the Japanese lingo used to describe their knives so I call this a pareing knife. The AEBL blade is 4.5" long and the knife is 8.5" long overall.

Good looking knife - like you Calvin, I'd just call it a paring knife. How is the sheath (storage? saya?) made? Looks to be made of wood? Give us details how it's made.

Yes Ken, it is wood, poplar I believe. Two halves with a spacer all around like a welt in a leather sheath. I taught him how to make knives not sheaths . He was already an expert at sharpening kitchen knives and making sayas when he came to me to learn how to make knives.
