First time using Kirinite

Gene Kimmi

KNIFE MAKER
I had ordered a piece of kirinite a while back and I had a customer pick it for his knife. I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not, but I think it turned out pretty good. I didn't have much luck sanding with higher grits on my sander, so I did the initial shaping, then went to hand sanding.

Very cool! is that the Desert Camo color? How does it mill/sand compared to G10?

Yes, it is. I thought it milled great. Sanding went fine until I got to a 220 belt, then it wanted to smear if it got very warm. I had to watch for this on the buffer also. Light pressure worked fine. I thought it hand sanded very easily. I went to 800 grit then buffed with white compound.
I haven't used G10 except for liners, so I don't have much of a comparison.

It works great with hand tools, with the light colors don't get pins to hot or they will melt around pin giving you a ghost ring around it. Knife came out very nice great job.
