Old sawmill blades

If it's a truly old blade, it's most likely L6 which is a good blade material. The only "true" way to tell what the metal is, send it somewhere to be analyzed. OR - take a couple small sections, treat "as if" it is L6 and HT accordingly and check for grain size and how hard it gets. If you've got small grain size and it's HARD, it will work good as "mystery metal" and make a perfectly decent knife.

I'm sure there will be folks MUCH more knowledgeable than I am chime in to give more info.
