S7 tool Steel

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with S7 Tool Steel , a gent who works for one of the auto firms brought a bar to me for a knife. Carbon is .45 data say's it will harden to 60 rock and is tough.

It is an air hardening shock resistant tool steel which is why it has the "S" in it. It is EXTREMELY tough but has poor edge holding.

Darrin summed it up nicely. I use it for tactical hawks and some karambits. You won't get it to 60 hrc. 57hrc is avg and you can probably get it to 58-59hrc if you temper around the 350 range but I have tried that. It's very tough. Makes great choppers, hawks, karambits, and machetes.

Thanks guy's,I think I will recommend some 80crv that I have out in the shop , tough but will take and hold an edge.
