I'm a french canadian and been wondering if there's any of us here, been looking around the forum been didn't seem to notice any!
I bought a little 1x42 1/4 hp belt sander with the idea to sharpen knives and ended up buying some norton blaze ceramic and started profiling knives with it. Didn't take long to figure I lacked power so I bought a 2x72 1hp + an 18.5" evenheat kiln used from someone locally (I live in the bottom of nowhere so the odds of this happening were second to none, got a good deal too!).
I never worked with my hands on anything so I had to learn the hard way, error and mistakes, to figure some stuff that works. I'm actually a student in programming and have no projects of become a full time maker but it's an incredibly fun hobby.
