accepting credit cards

I have been taking credit cards using the square reader for over three years now or about that long. In the last three months I have taken roughly $35,000.00 in credit card sales all going thru the square.
Yesterday I got an email right after they put $1700.00 in my account. the email said that I could no longer use the square for my credit card sales due to Article 6 of the bylaws.
I tried to contact them with no avail. I have used that thing with the same name on the acct and same back acct for 3 years with no problem. Now article 6 says that anyone selling weapons cannot use the square as a sales aid. Go figure no hunting knives are weapons.
I wonder if they contacted anyone selling beer and wine and whisky since more people are killed by drunk drivers that with knives every year.
Has anyone else had this problem, I had heard of someone selling guns this happen to but not knives.
Let me know your card system that lets knives be sold.

Thanks for your time

When I use Square, Paypal etc.
I always list ALL knives as "Culinary" on the invoice.

Dagger, Dirk, Hunting, Rambo and the like set off their red flags in their that you are an evil arms dealer!

You now sell Culinary knives! :3:

We have a square reader, but only for shows where we can't get a phone connection. Their rate is way too high for everyday stuff. They've been pushing us to use them more, but if they are treating knifemakers this way, that relationship will end in a hurry. I'll be following this thread. It was custom knifemakers that recommended square to me.

Rob!

You mention the rates to too high for square reader, at 2.75% is that not similar to credit card rates? And PayPal is 2.9% plus 30 cents. Since those costs are factored into products, It has always griped me as a cash customer I had to pay them also. Seems like the credit card companies got a bill passed thru US congress many years ago to prevent discounts for cash payments.

One store I knew quit taking credit cards and wanted checks only. Said their loss from bad checks was less than credit card fees. That was many years ago, so I expect they are taking credit/debit cards now.

I used Square for over three years with no problem. Same name and bank account. My business has grown a lot with the knives I make for the museums from the steel off of the old ships. I don't know what the problem was except a friend said it was because someone got into the whitehouse and had a pocket knife, that is probably about right.
I am getting the intuit one and they only need to know that you are selling a legal product.
That is ok by me.

This has been going on a lot longer than last week when that man jumped the fence and got into the white house while the Secret Service was taking a nap.

I've heard reports by many of trouble with "WEAPONS" sales going through various Credit card companies.

I will look into Intuit even though I haven't had a problem with my culinary knife sales through Paypal and Square.

Always good to have another horde in the stable. I expect these problems to only get worse!

This is all due to Feds and their Operation Choke Point and it has been going on for some time

Up until recently I used PAI - Payment Alliance International as my CC processor - they are "weapons" friendly and cost are in line with most of the better processors here's their website http://www.gopai.com/

I used them based on the SASS groups recommendation after I had trouble with another processor and PayPal. The only reason I quit was do to health reasons and I am no longer taking orders for a while - good people and they offer several different methods of accepting cards including online which I mainly used without the need for a reader but just a laptop and Wi-Fi for those away from home times.....

Update
I just got an email from Square because I questioned this action.
The email says because of their other financial institutions they cannot give me a reason for theis action only that it cannot be reversed and was final.
What a business decision, liberal turd heads for sure

Chuck,
Thanks for the link, I haven't had any trouble with Square or paypal yet! Its always wise to have another horse in the stall reedy to go and with the kind of stuff that is happening to Percy and other honest knife dealers & makers on those services I may just move over anyway since they consider me high risk with the likes of the porn industry.

I use my PayPal reader most of the time now, but keep my descriptions generic just in case there ever is an issue. I saw the article when Square went this route. Intuit, and now Amazon have their own card readers. May end up being a better option long term, but I haven't made the switch yet. Just too easy using IFTTT to automatically add any PayPal transaction to my Google Doc spreadsheet for accounting.
