Help identifing grinding belt

I have some belts I bought for my KMG clone and I think they may have came from Boss. I went to put a new belt on and I am looking at an 80 grit and then I see this belt. I think it is either 60 grit or possibly a 30 grit, all I know is it is heavy grit. It eats steel like it is laughing at it! :what!:

The belt is Orange and here are the markings, it is a Norton. It also is marked,
R980, another marking on the belt says SG and other markings are Y-WT. I can't find a grit marking on the belt! I am trying to figure it out so next time I order I can get some more of these for roughing in!

Can anyone tell me what this belt is????

Sounds like a Norton Blaze belt. They start at 24 grit and go up to 120 or 220? The grit should be on there the numbers you have given are Model & weight. You might be able to learn more by looking at Norton Blade here http://www.trugrit.com

Have fun!

Thanks Laurence, I will check out the site. I was puzzled because I can't find a grit listed on the belt.

I probably still got the invoice somewhere I may have to go that direction to figure out the grit!:what!::31:

OK I went to the site and put into their search the R980 and this pops up.

However.......................I may still have to dig up the invoice to figure out the grit. I remember buying several different grits, some just to play around with, this one is a heavy grit and it loves to eat steel!!!!!

If its that aggressive I'm thinking that its at least a 36X or maybe even a 24X. A 24X ceramic belt @ 3600 SFPM is simply amazing. They are excellent for sharpening mower blades. I just pull a burr with the 24X, switch to a 120X, clean up the 24X scratches, knock off the burr, & I'm done.
