will this etcher work for blades???

I recently got one of these at a yard sale for a few bucks. It is designed to etch with a tungsten writing point.

My question is will this unit work with a different stylus?? with stencils and etching fluid like most makers use on there blades?

I've never dealt with one of those machines, but obviously the key is.....can it be used to produce a "professional" looking mark? I suspect the only way to find out is to give it a go, practice a bit, and if it doesn't work as you'd like.....you can always trade it off or sell it, and get something that works for you.

You probably won't be happy with the results.
I picked one of those up about 20 years ago (not for knives) and got the same results as when we used car batteries and a coat hanger to write on 55 gallon drums when I was a kid. All I ever got from it was a stippled mark without any detail.

Interesting, never seen an etcher like this before. I was anticipating one of those hand held engravers.
