Pivot Length micro tutorial

I am using some of the fancy new Ti pivots BossDog stocks for the first time. Specifically these ones http://usaknifemaker.com/folding-knife-parts-c-30/pivots-and-stand-offs/titanium-pivot-set-4-416-stainless-heat-treated-3-16-dia-x-500-length-barrel.html#.U7fL6CipMtU

For this knife I have been trying to keep a slender profile for the knife whilst keeping quite a thick liner. The liners are 0.080" and the bolsters are only 0.100". This meant that when I assembled the knife the pivot was a touch too long. I thought I would do a micro tutorial on how I shorten them.

With the knife assembled I remove the bolster or handle scale and draw around the pivot with a sharpie. This lets me know how far I will have to grind down to.

I'll pull the knife apart and start shortening the pivot on the grinder. I allow a smidge extra when I do this as I will flatten them by hand lapping once they are close to length. To do the lapping I use another one of BossDog's handy products .. the pivot lap http://usaknifemaker.com/pivot-lap-basic-knifedogs-3-bushing-model.html#.U7fNliipMtU

I generally use a 3/16" pivot so I have it already set up to go. All I am aiming to do is bring the pivot square as it is close to the length I need after I ground a bit off.

It doesn't take long at all to square it off. After doing this you need to also make sure that the screws don't touch in the middle of the pivot. In my case they were just touching so I took a little off them on the grinder too. My end goal is to have the pivot extend past the liners into the bolster but doesn't extend past my counter bored hole.

Thanks for looking.
