Ok now we need to mark the center line of our edge, you can do this with a drill bit or use a gauge like I do.

Ok next we need to put some pin holes in the tang, first lets center punch the holes.now clamp the blank down somehow,I use this jig with a scrap of laminate under the blank .Using a sharp appropriate drill bit drill your holes.

That's it for today dogs,I have a pile of leather that needs to get turned into sheaths.I hope that this is helpful to someone and in the least enjoyable to follow.Paul

Great WIP thread, I did enjoy it . If I may ask, why did you use such wide steel for the blanks?

Lets just say ordering from your phone while at a drill rig in Prudhoe bay ain't what it's cracked up to be lol.I meant to order 1 1/2 but ordered 2 inch.I will pick up with grinding the bevels tomorrow.

Ok so this morning I chanfered the pin holes and cleaned up the front quillons,I don't have a small wheel for my grinder so this is how I do my small radiuses.I use my variable speed router with a stone wheel and it works like a charm.

I only had time to get one blade ground out this morning, first I knock the edges off with a file, next it's over to the grinder and I put a 10 deg bevel on the edge taking it to my scrib lines, then I go back over it at 5 deg.next I grind in the swage at 20 deg to my scribe lines leaving 50 thousands till after heat treating. That's all for today dogs Paul.

Part two,I got all 4 blades ground and ready for heat treat.I clay backed all 4 with furnace cement and let dry 24 hours, next fired up the kiln and brought the temp up to 1475.while the blades were coming up to temp I preheated my quenching fluid to 140 deg. After the blades reached the nonmagnetic stage I let them soak for 7 min and quenched. Then off to the toaster oven heated to 450 and soaked twice for two hours each letting them cool to room temp in between.
