Forge WIP :)

hope this is in the right spot :)
I have been wanting to build a forge for a very long time, so when John tells me that he has an old kiln that we might can sacrifice and build one..i was all over it! i would also like to point out that we are in no way experts, but we did do a lot of research before we started :)

So he shows up and this thing is huge! the inner dimentions are 24x24x24, our plan is to cut the volume in half. we will lay it on its side where the door opens down and fill the bottom half with kwool, and then line it with refractory. that should leave us a space that is 24 wide x 12 tall x 24 deep. the burners will come in at roughly a 45deg angle, mainly because we have holes there already :) also because we want the heat to swirl inside the box.

Big Thanks to Matt Paul of MP Knives for letting me bounce ideas off him and answering all my stupid questions :)

ok Picture time!

The guys at work trying to figure out what we are doing :) the one with the open lid is going to be the forge...the one in the back is our new bigger HT oven..:)

the SS tubing goes through a pass through swedge lock fitting so you can adjust where the gas nozzle sits past the air chamber (cross). you can see the gas nozzle in the air chamber in one pic, but it actually ends up just past the chamber into the mixing tube.

It ignited but because its day light and we are using propane you cant see the flame. we'll get a picture at night so we can see how well the burner is working.

top view of forge...now its time to modify this guy..stay tuned!
