Here's one I just finished up.

I'm loving the properties, grip, feel and look of the natural ebonized cork...

Overall length- 16-1/2 inches

Handle- Natural cork (ebonized)
(Turks head knot- woven cotton cord, sealed with orange flake shellac)

Ferrule and end piece- Copper and bronze

Blade- forged from 1065 steel

Tai,that's really cool, what a great design, and of course you executed it well, very well!
What do you mean when you say you ebonized the cork!

Thanks Calvin.

It's a two step "patina" for natural materials like wood, leather, bone etc. The first step, when or if, there is a lack of natural tannin in the material, is to introduce tannin. The second step is done with "vinegaroon", (steel wool dissolved in vinegar) either bushed on, dipped or soaked. The iron in the vinegaroon reacts with the tannin and turns a permanent black. The nice thing is than it keeps and shows the natural grain of the material and doesn't flatten it out like a die.

That looks great, Tai! The cork is a great concept and I woild love to get one like the smaller fishing ones you have made someday.

Thanks guys.

Here's a shot of it before the ebonizing, to give a better idea of what it did.

Very fine work all around. The cork handle is both beautiful and functional.
